a place called home

Finally a "girl" apartment, which means PINK and all things me and girlie. I love that I didn't have to worry about anyone's opinion but my own when decorating this space. It's a work in progress, like everything in life but I feel at home here.

The fireplace is probably my favorite feature in this apartment. Oh and if you're wondering, those two hip, handsome men in the photo are my father and grandfather hold a baby me! I know the hair is awesome right?

The mirror is from my beloved Ikea, as are the vases and frames. That killer bookend was an Ashley's Homestore find and the print, an adorable little store here in Austin.

The light in this apartment is insane and I've got a great view of a cute little courtyard. I'm definitely in need of some art and a rug though! Sofa: Ashleys Pillows: Homegoods Vase, Bowl, Lamp: Target and that coffee table? It's a collapsible crate I rescued from the dumpster!

What do ya think? It feels like home!

This one's from the draft archives... wonder why I never posted it!

Shopping List

Kreg Jig
1 1/2" wood Screws (I love Kreg screws)
4 - 2x2s @ 8 ft
5- 1x2s @ 8 ft (You really only need 4 but I'm a perpetual over-buyer and prefer to have an extra in case I make a mistake, plus they only cost like $3....)

Cut List

2x2's
2 @ 67"  (or whatever total headboard height you decide)
2 @ 55.5"

1x2's
2 @ 42"
3 @ 48.5"
3 @ 5"
4 @ 12"
2 @ 14"
3 @ 8.5"
2 @ 18"

First attach the 2x2 together using pocket holes to create a frame.

Then lay out the inside pieces on a flat level surface, positioning each  piece. You may want to label them to make it easier to place.

Using pocket hole attach the inner pieces flush with the front of the frame.

p.s. I haven't built this, so I have no clue if the plans are correct, and I can't guarantee them! I'm human I make mistakes. Oh and I'm totally not a carpenter just a girl who likes math and design. Please let me know if you see any mistakes so I can correct them.

p.p.s. If you build this, please share the finished results I'd love to see them. Also please credit me and link back to here if you decide to use this content in any form. Thanks!

she lives!

tap, tap.... Is this thing on......

I know, bad bad blogger. Does life ever get so far ahead of you that you feel like the world has turned over and finally landed back on itself. Well ladies (and possibly gentlemen) that is exactly what happened to me.

 (Austin, TX)

As I sit here on my sofa, in my apartment that I've so lovingly called home for almost a year I realized I quit something I really enjoyed! Blogging, the community, the camaraderie that this wonderful place has.

So I'm back... not likely in full force but I'm here nonetheless.

tomorrow I'll share a few pictures of the place...

Greetings from basic training

Hello! Just popping in to tell you all I'm alive! I've made it through basic training and I'm on my way to AIT (advance training specific to my job!) only 4-5 more months of ugly bunks and sharing rooms then it's off to start decorating again! I miss all the prettiness of my favorite blogs and can't wait to catch up on what everyone's been up to these past few months!

Just for fun this is what I've been living in the last 11 weeks!

I'll be back soon enough! Miss you all so much!

be still my heart

Can someone please tell me how I've been so horribly out of the loop when it comes to Ikea's Blog/website Life at Home?!

If you're out of the loop like I am I URGE you, no F- that I'm begging you to check it out. It's a perfect example of why I love Ikea so much.

Here are some of my favorite images from my 5+ hour long browse.

life's busy sometimes

Just wanted to pop in with some good news! I'll be posting some great decorating and diy stuff in the near future. I just moved in with a friend (while I await basic training) and she's given me the go ahead to go crazy with her place. I can't wait to share what I'm planning.

Also, some may think it's weird but I had the opportunity to trash my wedding dress this past weekend with a photographer friend, Laura Burnes. I had a blast and can NOT wait to see the rest of the photos. Be sure to pop over and check out her work. She's kind of amazing! ;)

throw some glitter make it rain

My B.F.F. Kate had a spectacularly themed birthday party this past weekend, in honor of her awesomeness and her birthday I thought I'd dedicate an entire post to the theme of her party.

I'm in love with all things sparkly and glittery so her "glitter" themed party was pure perfection. Cleaning up afterward from all the "glitter bombs" however is going to be a pain!

My outfit from the party!

xxo lovelies!
